'5 Questions With': Grim Sickers
"I really realised anything can happen if you work super hard and stay consistent."
If you’re a fan of grime or the UK music scene in general, then you are very likely familiar with rapper Grim Sickers already. Initially emerging onto the scene as Lord Of The Mics V in 2013, the London-based artist has got a huge catalogue of collaborations with the likes of The Streets, Ghetts and JME under his belt and continues to demonstrate his talent with captivating, genre-spanning tracks.
Just recently, he’s released a brand new single. Titled ‘True To You’, his latest offering features up-and-coming artists Rhys The Confessor and Gallah and is another testament to his impeccable ability of creating garage-orientated, sonically rich tracks alongside formidable lyricism. We spoke to him about the new release and his thoughts of the scene these days.

EQ: What’s been your most memorable musical moment so far?
GS: It would have to be Mike Skinner bringing me out at Glastonbury 2019 at one of the main stages, the moment literally changed my life. Ever since then, my mindset has been so strong. I really realised anything can happen if you work super hard and stay consistent.
EQ: So talk us through your new single “True To You”, what’s it all about?
GS: Since January I have been in the studio everyday single day (near enough) and just found myself experimenting more, being more confident and growing and evolving as an artist. I love the musician I’m becoming and I think the best Sickers is yet to come.
EQ: You’ve been in the game for so long already, what are your thoughts on the current state of the music scene and where do you see grime in the future?
GS: I love the UK scene and I think it’s thriving, we’re producing worldwide talent and music that will last forever. With grime we’re not at the forefront as much as we used to be but it don’t mean we can be once again. I reckon more people need to be themselves in grime and have a bit more identity to create something great and connect more. It’s a great genre and made me who I am today.

EQ: And how have you developed as an artist ever since you’ve started out?
GS: Ah man, I feel I’m a totally different person. I’m not like in the greatest grime MC conversations or anything but I’ve left my mark. I feel as a musician I can make songs with anyone - look at the people I’ve worked with it’s really remarkable, I’ve done the unthinkable at times and I owe it all to hard work and God.
EQ: Finally, what else have you been cooking up that you can share with us?
GS: I have my own cooking show coming out soon and I’m becoming quite a popular boxing pundit, I will always be a musician but I’m also a brand as well and in a few years I will be on your TELE, you watch hahahah.
I’m working with some great new artists and we’re building a dynasty - look out for Rhys The Confessor/ Sware , Gallah Lotus, video wise: Ayman Chaudry and on the camera Amrit.
