Coming off the back of an eventful summer which included live performances and repeated radio play, King Tobee and Just Day are back with a new collaborative single, ‘Stixx’, repping their hometown Milton Keynes.
Some might know the duo as Oye2.0 - a massively talented film-making duo. But already in their younger years, it was clear that a career in music has always been in the cards. To this date, both multi-hyphenate artists have had notable journeys of their own, with King Tobee experimenting with recording demos in his studio apartment and JustDay going to music schools since the tender age of 7. However, what really sets them apart from others is their experience of living in various places across the world, including the United States, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. The enormous exposure to different music scenes in other cultures is undoubtedly mirrored within their distinct sound.
We spoke to them about the creation of ‘Stixx‘, why they want to pay homage to their hometown, and more.

EQ: How did you two first meet?
JD: We met before birth haha, we’re cousins so we’ve known each other since we were kids.
KT: We’ve known each other since Day Dot (excuse the pun) haha.
EQ: So tell us about your new single Stixx, what is it all about and how was the video shooting process like?
JD: ‘Stixx‘ is about where we’re from, who we are, what we do. There’s a dope community around us and we wanted to flex that. The video was a lot of fun. We worked with our good friends Muvie to pull it off and then we edited it that same day.
KT: It’s a straight flex! We’re trying to shed light on the talent and the community in the Stixx. I also wanted to set an example on how to express how different we are as a community, to inspire the next-gen.
Making the track was fun but when it came to the visual it felt like a historical day. We had a few bumps on the road with things not going according to plan but with a cold solution-based team, Muvie production, we managed to get the job done like we always do. The adrenaline was pumping so much that we chopped up the video that night.

EQ: Both of you are creatives with many video projects under your belt - what made you decide to release music as well?
JD: Music was the first creative outlet I fell in love with. I’d say I’ve been developing as an artist for a while so it was just a matter of when I felt ready to go.
KT: Music has always been in the blood. Everywhere life has taken me the common denominator has always been music especially with relationships I’ve created from young all around the world down to my filmmaking side of things. I’ve always felt that I would be an artist that does loads of things because I thought, and I still think, that that stuff is cool AF. I started falling in love with the process and then the product got good, so It was just waiting for the right time.
EQ: Your mission is to rep Milton Keynes! Who are other creatives and artists we should look out for coming from there?
JD: Ahhhh MK! Stixxx! I mean from MK specifically we’ve got Cam Thomas + Five Entertainment, Issa Baby, SB, Cas, KianVSLife - there’s a lot more but just speaking about the Stixx collectively we’ve got the Queen Karis Beaumont, Founder of Bumpkin Files and photographer, my brother Toch, LZZZ, Lonny Blacc. Ahhh I will really be here all day but these are all going to be names that the world will know and love.
KT: I feel like I should make an official Stixx directory because there are too many people. Each and every single one of these people are doing a lot and you guys should keep an eye out for these names.
EQ: Word on the street is you’ve got a project on the way, anything you can reveal yet?
KT: It’s very special. 🙂
