Words & Interview by Antonia Kuenzel

EQ: You have just dropped your EP ’The Shore’ - what can you tell us about the project yet?

LW: The Shore is my first big step on my musical journey, these are songs I’ve curated for years and I’m really proud of how it’s all come together.
In my most vulnerable state this is how I’ve felt about loving someone in these years so far.

EQ: How long was the EP in the making and how did you approach it creatively?

LW: Most of 2020 was dedicated to the EP, we spent entire days in the studio, I in and out of the booth just sharing ideas and putting down different melodies.
I drew all of my creativity from past trauma I felt needed to be released, everything I sang was very real.

EQ: Your sound is quite distinct and an incredible mix of electronica and alternative R&B. Which artists influenced you when you first started out and when did you eventually find your signature sound?

LW: I have idolized The Weeknd for quite a long time, I’ve tried to learn from the singing techniques he uses in songs so I would say that’s my biggest inspiration, Through studying older R&B very intensely I found a way to incorporate old singing techniques into modern R&B, that’s where I get my sound.

EQ: Coming from Barbados, you come from a rich musical heritage - who are some of your favourite up-and-coming artists from the Caribbean?

LW: I would say my current list is…
Shai Bascombe
Krisirie
Haleek Maul
Teff Hinkson
That would be my personal list and these are all people from Barbados.

EQ: What else have you got planned for this year?

LW: This year has been really good for me creatively, I’m looking to finish my album this year I wouldn’t say I’m gonna drop it but definitely finish it and hopefully travel and do some gigs overseas.
