Known for their manic and energetic live shows, Liily is comprised of four Los Angeles-based musicians — Dylan Nash, Sam De La Torre, Charlie Anastasis, and Maxx Morando. After releasing their EP ‘I Can Fool Anybody In This Town’, which featured their early singles, the band went on to perform at Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo and toured across Europe and the US. But after being in the spotlight for a while, Liily disappeared all of a sudden. Now, the four-piece have re-emerged with their brand new album ‘TV Or Not TV‘. Dylan from the band spoke to us about their comeback, going on tour, and more.

EQ: How did you first meet and eventually decide to form Liily - and why did you call your band Liily?
D: Sam, Maxx, and I met at a music program when we were younger, Sam and Maxx eventually started a band and picked up Charlie who had gone to school with Maxx, after playing a bunch of shows they asked me to be the singer, being that they didn’t have one. Maxx and Sam got the name from our good friend Lily Rosenthal, I couldn’t tell you why they chose the name but I also couldn’t imagine our name being anything else.
EQ: You’ve got an album ‘TV or Not TV’ out now! How long was the album in the making and what can fans expect from it?
D: The album was a couple of years in the making, it was a lot of personal development and artistic growth that went into the process, that’s why there’s a lot of variation when it comes to the sound of this record. I think fans will be surprised that the record is a hard left from the EP, hopefully pleasantly surprised!
EQ: Your Journey has been quite eventful so far but eventually you just vanished - what made you decide to re-emerge now?
D: We really wanted a restart, we weren’t happy with the music we had out, so we really dug our heads in the sand trying to pull out something that we really enjoyed. It truly was a rebuilding process trying to make this record so that’s why it took the length of time it did.

EQ: In November you’re also coming to the UK for a few shows! Do you find performing in Europe/the UK different from the US in terms of fan energy, atmosphere, and so on?
D: Europe and UK fans are definitely crazier when it comes to energy, it feels like they go to shows just to enjoy the time there instead of the vanity of going to a concert.
EQ: Is there anything else you’ve got planned for the remainder of the year?
D: We’ll probably just be touring for the rest of the year being that our record just came out. We’re excited to play shows with the new songs!
