'5 Questions With': Olivia Lunny

"It was so incredible to play to fans and have them sing some of the words back! Truly a dream come true."

Olivia Lunny, the Canadian singer/songwriter sensation, has made her first release of the year with brand new single ‘TIMEZONE’ - following up on last year’s empowering ‘VIBE CHECK’, featuring Megan Thee Stallion and Bhad Bhabie, as well as the infectious ‘WONDERLAND’.

‘TIMEZONE’ comes with Sam Leviton-directed and Jack Birchlet-produced visuals and perfectly captures the song’s themes - starting off with Olivia riding a motorcycle en route to a house party, the video effortlessly blends themes of escapism and intimacy, and portrays the mood of the track in a perfect way.

With this alt-pop offering, Lunny showcases her versatility once again. It’s clear that the electronic-pop princess is destined for stardom, so watch this space.

Equate caught up with hee for our quick fire ‘5 Questions With’ profile.

EQ: When did you first know that you wanted to be an artist, and how did you eventually find your signature sound?

OL: Growing up I was immersed in music. My parents played it constantly around the house and I loved listening to CD’s on the long rides to school. When my dad taught me a few chords in guitar at the age of 12, I fell in love with music and the spark began to grow from there!

I can attribute my sound to being exploded to every genre from a young age. Classical, hard rock, folk, pop. Although my sound is always evolving, this new music feels so right and vibrant… I can’t wait to keep sharing music with fans!

EQ: Coming from Canada, has the country’s rich musical heritage inspired you in any way, and if so how?

OL: It absolutely has. Growing up in Winnipeg I honestly think the chilly winters brought me together with like minded talented individuals to hibernate and make music with! There are so many iconic Canadians, I’m motivated to keep going to one day hopefully add my name to the list!

EQ: Let’s talk about your new single ‘TIMEZONE‘ - what was the creative process like for the single?

OL: This song was inspired by a series of events. Moving to the West Coast, The chaos of long distance relationships, A FaceTime call with my dad while he was in India and we were juggling time zones, and the studio session where the song was born with new friends I had just met from Norway. ‘TIMEZONE‘ is unapologetic, carefree and makes me wanna drive along the ocean with the windows down!

EQ: You’ve had quite an exciting year last year - ever since you started out your career, what has been your favourite moment?

OL: I went on my first Canadian wide tour last October with my friend and talented headliner Tyler Shaw. It was so incredible to play to fans and have them sing some of the words back! Truly a dream come true. I can’t wait to keep touring in the coming months.

EQ: Finally, what else have you got planned for the rest of the year, anything you can unveil?

OL: So much new music.. maybe an EP?! I don’t want to give away too much but follow me on socials @olivialunny to stay up to date.
