EQ: Hey SABRINA, what’s your earliest musical memory?
S: I remember being on holiday with my family in 2004 (in America) and buying Gwen Stefani’s album ‘Love, Angel, Music Baby’ from HMV and going back to our apartment and playing it every day. I was so happy and this memory will stay with me forever. I learned all the lyrics.
EQ: Which music did you grow up listening to and how did you ultimately find your signature sound?
Well, through my family I have exposed to my mum’s love of Pop and my dad’s love of Smooth Jazz. We used to have music playing all day long in the house (and nothings changed).
Finding my sound is something that is still ever-changing. I love experimenting with new sounds! I started putting covers on Soundcloud which I tried to make very different from the original, this helped me get some attention and a chance to work with other producers which were producing House and Electronic music. That’s when I started to love the electronic sounds. I met a producer called Ricardo and he had an amazing way of bringing Electronic sounds into my music and making it sound very cooool. Since then.. I’ve learned more about what I love to hear in my music and tried to create a unique sound that people would recognise it was me.

EQ: Can you tell us a little more about your single ‘Drive’, what is it all about?
S: Absolutely! ‘Drive’ is a love song but not a sad love song. I had inspiration from hearing a story (not naming any names) where the guy wasn’t showing any love or interest and the girl had enough. All this time, the girl was trying to work it out but in the end, realised… she could do better. When I started writing this song, I felt empowered. It was refreshing to write and it came very naturally. The main hook line “Boy get in your car and drive” is another way of saying.. “Boy, fuck off”. AND it feels good to sing. I’m so excited to perform this song live and I hope others feels empowered when they listen to this song.
EQ: It’s only your third single so far! Did you find it daunting to put your music out there when you first started out?
S: Not really. I have no pressure. I haven’t got a deal where if I don’t sell a certain amount of records, I will be dropped. I’m releasing songs because I love them and I love writing them. This is my dream and something I want to be doing for years and years. I’m hoping to climb that ladder of success and be a part of the music industry where I have the opportunity to sing to crowds of strangers but somehow feel like friends as we connect through my music.
EQ: Which are your favourite songs on your playlist right now?
S: Hmmmmmm, that’s always a hard question.
