EQUATE Meets Dylan
"I went a bit to town with the lyrics as they're more psycho than I would like to think I am, but writing it definitely helped me release some anger I was feeling towards someone."

There is one thing Dylan never fails to deliver, and that is premium pop anthems. Just earlier this year, she has gifted us ‘Nineteen‘, and recently followed up with the infectious track ‘Someone Else‘ - a relatable song that is all about falling for someone who’s already in love with someone else. I mean, who hasn’t been in that situation before? Next to releasing two singles this year, Dylan has supported Yungblud on his London shows in summer, and has recently announced her tour in 2022 with stops in Manchester, Bristol, and London! There are undoubtedly exciting things ahead for this talented artist. We caught up with her and spoke about all new single, influences, and more!

EQ: Hey Dylan, what’s your earliest musical memory?
D: Hello! I think probably singing ‘Knocking on Heavens Door’ with my dad. It was one of the first songs I learnt the words to.
EQ: Who were your favourite artists growing up, and who is influencing your sound the most now?
D: I had a lot because my dad introduced me to a lot of rock music (typical dad rock) with the likes of ACDC, Guns n Roses, Queen, etc. But that didn’t stop me from dancing around to most of the pop party CDs for most of my childhood. Now, I’d say the music is influenced by whatever I’m listening to at that current moment. Mostly Catfish and the Bottlemen, 1975, and Taylor swift.
EQ: You’ve recently released your single Someone Else, can you tell us more about that?
D: It’s a very upfront song about not being wanted by the person I liked. I think I went a bit to town with the lyrics as they’re more psycho than I would like to think I am, but writing it definitely helped me release some anger I was feeling towards someone.
EQ: What‘s usually your creative process when creating a new song?
D: It’s new every time. Sometimes the lyrics come first, other times the chords or melody. However recently I seem to be getting my better ideas on the tube which makes it very awkward in silent carriages trying to record a voice note.

EQ: You‘ve also been supporting Yungblud on his London show in August, what was that experience like?
D: The most exhilarating and terrifying thing I have ever done!!! Gave me something to aspire to - his fans are the most gorgeous human beings and it was a pleasure to meet so many of them after.
EQ: On Spotify, your bio says your pet peeves are people who don’t like Taylor Swift which made me chuckle. As a fellow swiftie, I have to ask what’s your favourite Taylor Swift song and why?
D: Don’t Blame Me - I WISH I had come up with those chorus lyrics. Also, the amount of vocals in it makes me very happy.
EQ: Finally, what else have you been cooking up that you can share with us?
D: Anyone that follows me on Tik Tok & Instagram knows exactly what’s coming, it is just a question of when now. Although I’m still with-holding all knowledge on that matter. so… no comment hehe. [Editors note: the secret seems to have been lifted - she’s going on tour! Buy your tickets HERE before they sell out!]
