EQ: Who is Madison Paris?
MP: The next big thing. I say that in the humblest way possible, but it’s true. I’m also currently doing the whole “speak it into existence” thing, so it seems like a great way to start the interview. I’m an RnB singer and songwriter from a small town called Slough just outside of west London. I’m trying to create a sound unique to me. My interpretation of RnB if you will.
EQ: What does music mean to you?
MP: To me, music is an experience. And experience is all we’re really here for. We associate so much of our lives, so many memories and emotions to specific songs. That’s powerful. It’s like songs are little time-capsules or markers for events in our lives. I find that amazing. The idea of someone making a memory to one of my songs is everything.
EQ: Who was your biggest musical inspiration growing up?
MP: It’s hard to say one but it’s no secret I was a Beyoncé stan. Not only is her music iconic but she always seemed so powerful and confident. Her showmanship and evolution as an artist is so inspiring.
EQ: How did you get into music, and what inspired you to pursue a career in it?
MP: Music has always been a massive part of my life. I have quite a creative family; most of them sing, play instruments, or write poetry. I think being surrounded by that inspired me to embrace my natural creativity. It made pursuing a career in music seem attainable and acceptable. I know a lot of people don’t pursue creative careers because of judgment from family or peers. I never had that so when I realised, I loved music and wanted to be a singer (I think I was about 5 or 6) I never saw a reason not to try and make it happen, and now here I am!

EQ: Apart from music, what are your other creative outlets?
MP: As I songwriter I enjoy all aspects of written word - poetry, books – I love reading and writing in every way. I’ve also recently been on a quest for mindfulness, so I’ve been doing yoga 3 times a week, and meditating every morning which also aids creativity. I also love painting and drawing I was really great at it in school and have recently got back into it.
EP: Apart from your own music, what is the best song on your playlist at the moment?
MP: Probably Snoh Aalegra – ‘I Want You Around’. I never get sick of listening to it. I wish it was my song.
EQ: Tell us something nobody knows about you
MP: I got both my front teeth punched out when I was 6 [laughs]. Obviously, they were baby teeth, so it was okay, but they weren’t ready to come out, so I didn’t have front teeth for like a year. Good times.
EQ: Explain your creative process? How do you get into your zone?
MP: A morning meditation is a must on studio days. It centres me and gets rid of the doubtful voice in my head (and eases imposter syndrome). After that I’m all about just going with the flow, I don’t think creativity should ever be forced. When I’m in the studio I normally free style most of my melodies and add words after. Melody is king when it comes to music and I always get my best melodies when I don’t over think it and just enjoy the moment.
EQ: What 3 songs are currently on your playlist at the moment?
MP: Kojey Radical – ‘Sugar’; SIR – ‘Hair Down’; Snoh Aalegra – ‘I Want You Around’
EQ: If you could pick any artist (dead or alive) to collaborate with, who would it be and why?
MP: I think it will always be Rihanna. She is so saucy. Everything about her inspires me.
EQ: What is next for you musically? Any exciting projects coming up that we should know about?
MP: I’m currently working on my debut project which is due to be released next year – I’m also going to LA for most of November to finish it which is exciting. My next single ETA will also be out very soon. It shows a different side to my personality and musical ability. ETA has definitely been a benchmark in my career so far, I made it during my first trip to LA earlier this year and with its creation came a whole new layer to my expression as an artist. It helped me to discover a new part of myself. I think people won’t expect it.
