EQUATE Premiere: Georgia Cécile
Rising jazz star is releasing her brand new single 'He Knew How To Love' alongside visuals directed by Rianne White, exclusively premiering on EQUATE.

The jazz scene in London is still quite underrated, but it’s more and more thriving thanks to the incredible artists who are representing it. At the helm of an exciting new wave of female jazz talents is Georgia Cécile who today releases her brand new track “He Knew How To Love“, alongside mesmerising visuals - exclusively premiering on EQUATE.
Citing a variety of singers as her musical influences, including Celeste, Melody Gardot and Gregory Porter as well as Stevie Wonder and Nina Simone, the songstress has already been making major waves in the past. For international women’s day, she was selected to perform live for BBC‘s Jazz Nights and sold out shows at jazz festivals in England and Scotland.
A heartfelt ode to her loving father and how he shaped her as a person, Georgia’s brand new track is a gripping blend of pop and her jazzy signature sound - brilliantly accentuating her profound vocals and undeniable talent.
She says:
“He Knew How To Love celebrates paternal love - that special bond that exists between all fathers and daughters but it’s also about difficult choices in life, family and sacrifice. The song captures the essence of my own father - his presence, spirituality and selfless nature - the ways in which he nurtured and shaped my world. The choices and sacrifices he made in life allowed me to pursue my dreams”.
For the visuals she‘s now teamed up with Scottish film director and choreographer Rianne White in collaboration with PRS Women Make Music Foundation. Alongside the premiere we spoke to Georgia to find out more about it!
Read the interview below..

“Rianne has an innate gift to understand the deeper context and she is able to capture a momentary performance and make it into art. We had so much fun making this video together! She is a force to be reckoned with.”

EQ: Hey Georgia, how did you first get into music?
G: I started learning the piano at 8 years old, and I was brought up in a large musical family. My grandfather was renowned jazz pianist in the 60s and 70s and my aunt was a glorious jazz singer! I wanted to learn to sing like Nancy Wilson, and I wanted to write sophisticated songs. I met my co-writter and pianist Euan Stevenson when I was 19; we’ve been writing songs together since.
EQ: Being part of a new jazz wave in the UK, which other Jazz artists in the scene inspire you?
G: I’m currently inspired by London based vocalist/cellist Sara Dowling who is one of my favourite artists. I also recently seen the Kansas Smitty’s band - Joe Webb and Giacomo Smith - live in London. I was uplifted by their energy and passion. I’m enjoying major breakthrough artists like Jacob Collier, Celeste and Gabriels.
EQ: With your new single out now, what’s the inspiration behind it?
G: He Knew How To Love was inspired by paternal love - that special bond that exists between all fathers and daughters but also the difficult choices and sacrifices involved. The song captures the essence of my own father - his presence, spirituality and selfless nature - the ways in which he nurtured and shaped my world!
EQ: And how was working with Rianne White for the music video?
G: We have been waiting a long time for the right project to make our collaborative debut, but this felt like the right time. Rianne has an innate gift to understand the deeper context and she is able to capture a momentary performance and make it into art. We had so much fun making this video together! She is a force to be reckoned with.
EQ: What else have you been working on that you can share with us?
G: We have been preparing a lot for the release of my debut album, and for a special concert which will host the official album launch later in the year… watch out on my socials for the release date!!
