The track comes in perfect time for Men’s Mental Health Awareness Week, a topic which Luchi Blue is passionate about and which should certainly be spoken up about more. With ‘Made Up My Mind‘ and its honest, raw lyrics, the rapper aims to encourage anyone who is struggling to not stay in silence and speak up about their feelings. The music video, directed by photographer Rosie Matheson, portrays the sentiments of the song perfectly.
Alongside the release, we had a chat with Luchi Blue about his self-care tips and the deeper meaning behind the single.

EQ: Hi Luchi Blue, how did you first get into music?
LB: I’ve been infatuated with music ever since a little kid. From the early days of singing and playing guitar, I felt like my path was always to create music. I realised how much I needed to make music as an output for all my emotional stress and anxiety. I think this the main reason why I have stayed on such a direct path all these years and will continue to do so. I have a strong message that I want the world to hear and I’m only just getting started.
EQ: How do you delegate your work as a model and as a recording artist? Is it challenging to combine those two or do they go hand in hand for you?
LB: I feel like I balance the two very well. Nowadays both industries are so interlinked that it’s important that I remain consistent with the two aspects of my career. I meet so many new faces everyday through my modelling, which helps me to share my story and network with some incredible creatives. For example, I met Rosie Matheson a few years back when she photographed me in Soho and now here she is directing this special video of mine.
“Life can easily get so hectic at times, but having a moment to breathe and sit with your thoughts and feelings is integral. If you keep trying to distract yourself and run away from feelings, they are only gonna build up and up and they overpower you.”
EQ: Can you talk us through your single Made Up My Mind?
LB: This track is very personal to me. I wrote this during in a time when I was at my lowest, almost as a way to pick myself up. I wanted to write the track in way that others who are going through a similar situation can directly relate to it. The song starts with me talking about some of the feelings I was going through when I was down in that deep dark place, but the second verse is more of a statement to tell others that they are not alone in this struggle. The track finishes with a few personal accounts from others who have experienced suicidal thoughts, which strengthens the message of this piece. I wanted to make sure this translated perfectly through the music video, by starting with me in a therapy session and ending the video with all the guys, who feature in the video, sitting in the exact same therapy session as me. This shows how all guys experience similar things and they should not feel alone.
EQ: Considering it’s Men’s Mental Health Week, what are your personal self-care tips?
LB: I love this question. Firstly, let me remind you that as guys we are conditioned from a young age that showing/talking about emotions in a sign of weakness. Like, I was in the park the other day and I overhead a father shouting at his crying son saying, “stop crying like a little girl, be a man”. It made me so angry.
Vulnerability is a sign of strength not weakness!
- If you are ever feeling low, you need to reach out to someone and talk. That person can literally be anyone, but trust me when I say this, it will make you feel a whole lot better. I’ve been seeing a therapist for almost a year now and its honestly been the best decision I’ve made. I would highly recommend it to everyone.
- Take time out for yourself. Life can easily get so hectic at times, but having a moment to breathe and sit with your thoughts and feelings is integral. If you keep trying to distract yourself and run away from feelings, they are only gonna build up and up and they overpower you. Believe me, I’ve been there before.
- Remember to stay present. Stop worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. There’s no need to cloud your mind with things that don’t exist. The only true moment is now.
- Prioritise your mental health. If your head isn’t in the right place, then you are not going to be compete any other tasks to your fullest potential.
- Drink lots of water & get lots of sleep. These are simple ones but essential. Sometimes a good nights sleep is all you need to reduce your anxiety.
EQ: What else have you got cooking up this year? Anything you can let us in on?
LB: Well I’ve got a couple more singles to come out in the next couple months and then maybe an EP for the end of the year. But that’s all I can say for now. Just watch this space.
