EQUATE Introducing SACHA

"I think if you stick to making music you love, you will find your listeners and it will grow from there!"

Meet SACHA - Hailing from Perth, Scotland, and of Pakistani heritage, the singer-songwriter moved to London a few years ago in order to pursue her music career and push her craft to a level that would set her apart from other singers. EQ: Hi Sacha, how did you first get started in music?

S: I’ve always been musical! I remember singing the lead solo in my pre-schools Christmas nativity haha, so I think I could say since I was about 3? But I’ve really taken my career seriously over the last 4 or 5 years, been in the studio working on my writing and sculpting my sound.

EQ: Your debut song has been released not too long ago, how did it feel to finally get your music out there?

S: It was extremely exciting and very scary! I held off for a very long time when it came to releasing as I wanted to make sure the music was exactly right. I’m very happy with the response so far!

EQ: So talk us through ’Something We’ll Regret’? Were the lyrics based on real life events?

S: The song was written about my repetitive bad choices with boyfriends! I’d gone out with a string of terrible men and then started dating someone who told me he didn’t believe in monogamy. I knew this wouldn’t work for me long term but when you’re young it’s very easy to say “F*** it” I’ll just see how it goes anyway!

EQ: How was your collaboration with producer Lewis Gardiner, how did you two meet and ultimately decide to work together?

S: I’m sure I reached out to him on Instagram! The Scottish music scene is very small and I’d heard lots of amazing things about his work. We set up a few sessions and clicked straight away and started writing for my project!

“I held off for a very long time when it came to releasing as I wanted to make sure the music was exactly right. I’m very happy with the response so far!”

EQ: Considering the scene in London is brimming and rather oversatured with talent, did you find it challenging to find your spot at all?

S: There is so many incredibly talented young female artists especially in London all trying to be heard, I personally don’t compare myself to others, especially not musically! I think if you stick to making music you love, you will find your listeners and it will grow from there! I don’t think when I look around I’m making music that’s super comparable to other female artists, I like to think I’m in my own little lane!

EQ: What was the music scene like in Perth anyway?

S: Non-existent! Hence the move to London, there really wasn’t anything-going on in my hometown music wise.

EQ: Your music is an incredible and bold grunge pop sound! Are there any artists you grew up listening to?

S: I wouldn’t say the artists I grew up listening to have sculpted my sound in anyway.. the artists I’d say influence my sound now are Miley Cyrus and early Dua Lipa , Halsey, anyone with a bit of edge!

EQ: Finally, what’s next for you? Any new music or even a project in the works?

S: I plan to drop my second single very soon! I have lots of new music ready to release.
