EQ: How did you first get into music?
S: My father is an actor and my mother is a singer. I grew up in a family of artists and I started singing since I was a few years old and by the time I was 7 I was on stage in Canada.
EQ: Being from Armenia, what was the music scene like over there, did you find it challenging to get more global recognition when first starting out?
S: It’s very hard for artists to make it outside of our country and I feel blessed to have international fans following my music. Some of it is thanks to Eurovision, which I took part in years ago.
EQ: Do you draw inspiration from Armenian artists?
S: I’m very much inspired by Armenian music, especially the older generation, folk singers. I’ve tried to combine that with modern day music and give the world something new to listen to. I believe authenticity always wins, so I always keep it very real with my music.
EQ: You’ve released your first album with 13 years old which is so impressive. Has your creative process changed at all since then?
S: My music has definitely changed over the years. My goal is to touch people’s hearts now, make their life feel better and also show my background and our rich culture.
EQ: You’ve also toured the world so far, in which city or country has been your most memorable performance yet?
S: I’ve toured in over 40 countries and each one is special; all my concerts end up turning into big parties and it feels like one big family.
EQ: ‘Let It Out’ is produced by RedOne, who we probably all know from his previous produced hits - how was working with him and how did the collaboration come about?
S: We met during an award show in Dubai, called DIAFA, then we connected and decided to make a track that would make people want to dance, because with everything happening in the world it’s so important to still be able to enjoy life.
“I try to create music which you can party to, cry, think, or simply just feel good about life.”
- Sirusho
EQ: You’re also the founder of a jewellery line Pregomesh! Tell us more about that! When did that idea spark in your mind, and how do you juggle music with that avenue?
S: At Pregomesh we recreate vintage Armenian jewellery pieces and modernize them, so it has this edgy, boho unique vibe. I don’t get tired of the creative process when I juggle and I love it.
EQ: What do you want your listeners to take away from your music?
S: I want to show them a different side of the world, but also in a very modern way so it’s not too unusual for the listener. I try to create music which you can party to, cry, think, or simply just feel good about life.
EQ: Last but not least, what else have you been working on that you can share with us?
S: Right now, as I am typing this interview, I’m on a plane with my team to Tunisia and we’re taking all the equipment needed to record new songs, so this is an experimental journey for us and those who follow me on social media will get to see the making and the final result.
