So, you want to write for EQUATE?
Before we go any further, you should know a little but about us and the publication if you don’t already.
Equate is a bespoke platform bridging the worlds of culture, lifestyle, music, art and politics. Through its long-form editorials, Q&A’s and content, EQUATE conveys stories which are as timely as they are timeless. With an aesthetic which combines classic elegance and boundlessly creative originality, EQUATE is both inspired and inspirational, emerging as a conscious, visionary space which ‘sees one as equal to another’. In other words, we want every artist, creative and talented person we work with to feel included and equal, and as great as it is working with Beyoncè’s of the world, we’d love to work with future stars too.
Now that know who we are, you’re probably be asking what we’re looking for? Well, lets start first with what we’re not looking for:
- Hyper Critical (Negative) Reviews & Opinion Pieces - this is a ‘good vibes only‘ space.
- Work That Has Been Previously Published - no ‘copy & paste’ please.
- False, Factually Incorrect or Misleading News - integrity is everything, so accurately told stories or interviews only.
- Music Submissions/Demo’s - sadly we’re not a label so won’t only be accepting music that’s not attached to a written feature or interview (however, if you’d like music featured please send us a link to music on DM on Instagram titled ‘New Music Friday’ & we’d consider these for our upcoming music feature.)
What We’re Looking For
So what are we interested in?
- Traditional journalism, personal essays/opinion pieces on music, culture, fashion, the arts and social justice (including, but not limited to: anti-racist, equality and activism; trans issues and the LGBTQ+ community, social change etc. For more ideas please take a look at previous stories we’ve posted and on our INSTAGRAM, FACEBOOK & TWITTER too).
- Known as a music-focused magazine hit us with your best music features & pitches. Know an exciting new band that’s killing their genre and is making the world of music a more innovate place that needs a spotlight shine on them, then this is your place. Or alternatively if you’re connected and want to feature a bigger artist, that’s very welcome too.
- Fashion stories: what’s new, what’s hot and what should we already know about that we don’t - well, we’d love you to give us an insight. Whether it’s a new designer collection or a fashion-week photo story we’d love to see it.
- Are you a photographer, stylist or visual artist that wants a home for their unseen work? Well this is the place - photo-submissions are open (please send this via Dropbox or WeTransfer only in hi-resouti0n, for a photo story we’d love a selection of 10-15 images so we can select the strongest images to use)
- Your great ideas that aren’t listed above
For online articles, we’re most interested in pieces in the 300–1,000 word limit, exceptions can be made for pieces above this limit, but will be on a case-by-case basis. We are currently working towards a digital issue due to the current pandemic, so print word limits will be added once we resume this, however this will be in the vein of 1,500-2,000 words.
We love highlighting new talent, but if you’re new to the world of editorial and publications, we’d love to consider you for shorter online editorial pieces before consideration for our digital and print issues.
