Rising star Wesley Joseph, the unique and exciting British producer, songwriter, and filmmaker has returned to gift us with his latest single ‘Ghostin’. Co-produced by the renowned DJ and musician Joy Orbison, and mixed by Jai Paul collaborator Lexxx. ‘Ghostin’ is shared alongside an impressive music video, animated by former Pixar technical director Najeeb Tarazi. This new single follows Wesley’s debut ‘Imaginary Friends’ and equally brilliant ‘Martyrs’ which were picked up by key industry tastemakers including BBC Radio 1 - where he featured as ‘New Name’ on Annie Mac’s show - 1Xtra, Beats 1, Rinse and NTS. With all of the incredible support Wesley has also received so far, and with praise from contemporaries including Jorja Smith, DEAN, Arlo Parks, Joy Orbison, and Sleaford Mods – 2020 is set to continue being a massive year for the artist.
Discussing the song and music video, Wesley says;
‘Ghostin’ is a real melting pot of flavours, and working with Joy O on the production created a natural exchange of palettes; blending soul, dance and experimental grooves with a melancholic, nostalgic undertone. The base of the song was produced the first time we met, and the hypnotic dance-like pulse with jazz chords set an off-tone vibe for the lyrics - which kind of wrote themselves on the bus home from the session.
That journey inspired the music video too, as I wanted to narrate a fictional story that worked alongside what I was seeing out of the window that night. We got in touch with an animator in LA called Najeeb Tarazi, who has made some great films and was part of the team at Pixar. I talked him through the idea, and he took off instantly and created a beautiful world that subtly blends eeriness and warmth for the song to exist in.”
