‘5 Questions With’: Glowe

Glowe (aka Georgia) is a fast rising newcomer who is storming her way towards into the spotlight with her newest EP release ‘Daughter’ (OUT NOW). Already dubbed as Wonderland’s ‘One to Watch’ this year, Glowe’s bubbly exuberant pop continues to reinforce this with her first single of the year ‘Overwhelmed’ turning heads at Colors, Complex, Music Week, Spotify and national radio. ‘Daughter’ is a shout out to the ladies, and is the opening song on her debut EP – which features contributions from SG Lewis’s band, and Dan D’Lion who leant his hand on production.

EQ: Hi Glowe, tell me a little bit about yourself and your journey into music.

G: Hey! So, my names Glowe (Georgia Lowe) and I’m a singer/songwriter based in London. As a child I was in all the school plays, took ballet classes and played cello whilst also being a social butterfly. I had friends in all different cliques. I guess music and performing has always allowed me to connect with others. I started out my music career by posting covers on Soundcloud. I then top-lined for drum & bass/dance tracks before writing my own songs. I met my manager through the rave scene and he and I have been on this journey together ever since!

EQ: You’ve just released your debut EP – congratulations! What was your creative process like, and the main inspiration behind this body of work?

G: Thank you so much! These songs came together very naturally. They all explore similar themes; female empowerment, self-confidence, love, and heartbreak. ‘Daughter’ is a very personal project in that it documents lessons I’ve learnt in life. I wanted to put something out that reflects me as young woman, navigating life and constantly evolving. I hope that it will spark something in others who have had similar experiences.

I wrote each track with a different producer so each of them has a slightly different vibe, tied together with a ‘Glowe’ sound. It’s important to collaborate with a variety of people as each of them brings out something new in me.

EQ: What’s your favourite track(s) from your EP that all our readers should run and stream? What makes it so special for you?

G: I love each song for a different reason, but I have to say, ‘Better Than U Do’ is definitely one of my favourites. I’m excited to be heading towards a more mature sound in terms of my lyrics and the production. I think this definitely in the right direction. I had so much fun filming the music video for this. It’s a very dark, intense setup involving a voodoo ritual. Go check it out!

EQ: What do you think the world of music (and the world in general) is missing at the moment?

G: I mean everything is totally up in the air and scary right now because of the global pandemic 🙁 it’s a scary and horrible time but we all need to be as positive as possible. I think it’s important to allow people to process this in their own way. It’s not a competition of ‘who can be the most productive’ and its certainly not a time to criticise people for using this time to chill out and be lazy. Supporting each other’s work and offering kind words really goes a long way at a time like this. I really hope my music can act as a distraction and bring some happiness back into everyone’s lives.

EQ: After we can all resume normal life what can we expect from you for the rest of 2020 – is there an EQUATE exclusive you can let us in on?

G: It’s hard to plan things for the future whilst things are so uncertain surrounding the virus, but I will be doing a London headline show. I’ve been working with a set designer who is turning the venue into an immersive ‘Glowe world’. Expect giant glowing clouds, colourful props and Alice-in-wonderland style madness. Keep ya eyes peeled for more info to come!
