‘5 Questions With’: vi0let
“I feel like a lot of my experiences are very relatable to others and I want to write music that people can connect with..”
Meet vi0let – born-and-raised in Germany, the songstress moved to Ireland when she was young, only to move back to Germany again and ultimately settling down in Brighton. The songstress has had an interesting journey behind her without a doubt. However, those constant relocations and the exposure to different cultures certainly developed her artistry to a high standard which is evident in her mature, compelling storytelling and her personal approach to creating alternative R&B tracks with a pop twist. Today, her new single ‘Toxic City’ is out, a stunning release which, as the title suggests, sees her reminiscing about a toxic relationship after returning to her hometown – a feeling that many can relate to. Ahead of its release, we spoke to the gifted songstress.

EQ: Hi vi0let, how did you first get started in music?
V: I’ve been singing ever since I can remember. I used to audition for the school talent shows in Ireland and when I moved to Germany, I went on the Voice Kids at 14 years old. There wasn’t really a music scene in the town I lived in Germany or Ireland but I started forming bands and using any opportunity to sing at local festivals and gigs.
EQ: Your sound has a stunning alt R&B vibe – who did you grow up listening to and who do you think influenced your sound the most?
V: Thank you! I know everyone says this but I genuinely listened to everything. I had a few years in Ireland where I was obsessed with pop-punk bands like Paramore, Green Day and Blink-182. Besides that, I’ve always gravitated towards powerful female vocalists. I grew up playing Adele, Christina Aguilera and Beyoncé CD’s on repeat. My grandad really got me into Jazz artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Etta James too. I also went through a K-pop phase as a teenager which I still hold dear to my heart. I think women in music have inspired me the most, I’m so inspired by strong and honest artists like SZA, Ariana Grande, IAMDDB, Miraa May. They’ve just given me the confidence to be unapologetically myself and to sing my heart out.
EQ: You’ve moved from Germany to Ireland to the UK. As a fellow German, I’m curious to find out whether living in Germany has inspired you creatively and musically in any way?
Hello fellow German! Germany definitely influenced my creative decisions. The German music scene is quite broad and I became so invested in German Trap and Rap, artists like RIN and Majan really inspired me to start writing music. Where I lived, the scene was so dead but it was kind of a blessing in disguise because I started to explore all kinds of music online. It’s like I created my own little personal music scene by making personal Spotify playlists.
“I feel like I have so much to say and sing about, so much my audience doesn’t know about me yet and with each song I feel like I’m always showing them a different side to vi0let..”

EQ: Today, your new single Toxic City is coming out. I really enjoyed watching the music video too. The lyrics are so relatable for many listeners. Do you usually base your lyrics around personal experiences?
Yes I can’t wait for people to hear the track, it’s one of my most personal songs to date. I always base my lyrics around personal experiences, whether it is an experience I’ve had myself or one that I see in others. I feel like I have so much to say and sing about, so much my audience doesn’t know about me yet and with each song I feel like I’m always showing them a different side to vi0let. I had a phase where all I wrote about was my last relationship but I’ve definitely healed and moved on from that and my writing inspirations come from all aspects of life now. I feel like a lot of my experiences are very relatable to others and I want to write music that people can connect with.
EQ: Anything else that you’re working on right now that you can already let us in on?
I’m currently finishing up my next single that comes out after Toxic City with an amazing female feature, I can’t wait to release it! We’re already brainstorming video ideas for it, all I can say is: super sexy R&B vibes. I’ll make sure to share the process and behind the scenes on my socials too. I also have several gigs booked for London this summer which I cannot wait for!
Besides that, I’ve been collaborating with all kinds of creatives from all over the UK and I can’t wait to show everyone this new and improved era of vi0let.
