'5 Questions With': Evann McIntosh

There is no doubt that some of the hottest talent right now emerges on Tik Tok – and Evann McIntosh is one of them. The 17-year old singer songwriter has gained a huge, ever-growing fanbase on the social media platform ever since their single ‘What Dreams Are Made Of’ went viral. After having signed to Mom + Pop, they are now ready to take over the music scene by storm. Dreamy, poignant and fun – it’s a hard to describe their jazz, soul and R&B infused songs in just one word.

Only recently, Evann has dropped their new single ‘COCO PEBBLES’, a captivating offering taken from their highly anticipated, forthcoming project ‘Character Development‘.

EQ: What’s your favourite musical memory so far?

E: I think my favorite musical memory was, it didn’t involve me musically, but seeing Paisley Park was something I’d been wanting to do for years and seeing and being in this place that had so much Prince in it was crazy. Praying I absorbed some of it for real.

EQ: You already have a solid fanbase – do you feel like Tik Tok in particular has helped you gain popularity since it’s the go-to app among Gen Z?

E: It definitely has. My entire following is literally just people who saw my TikToks that did well and funneled over to my music.

EQ: Tell us about your upcoming project ‘Character Development’! What can we expect?

E: It’s a step up from the first project, ‘Mojo‘, but nearly the same project with an older and more developed narrative. It’s completely the title, I called it ‘Character Development’ initially because it was the best name for a sophomore album to me, because regardless of theme or whatever, all you can expect with new creation is development. And then the whole world and myself developed so much and so fast over the last 2 years that it feels like it means something completely different now.

EQ: What’s your creative process when writing a new single or planning a new video?

E: I just try to not think about it. I think it’s become an even balance that I’ve been able to harness of not thinking and simultaneously thinking about what I’m making, if that makes any sense AT ALL. But I try to let whatever happens happen and when it does I do my best to make sure it’s executed to the best of my abilities, put some thought into what I’m making.

EQ: Finally, what else have you been working on, musically or non-musically that you can share with us?

E: ANOTHER PROJECT!!!!!!! Woo!
