‘5 Questions With’: Taura Lamb
“As a child I was obsessed with the big chart hitters – my walls were COVERED in posters of Rihanna and Beyonce. I knew every word to every Britney track and I was pretty much in love with Ne-Yo….”
UK-based songstress Taura Lamb has already been making major waves with her recent releases, such as her critically acclaimed, self-produced EP ‘Lucky Girls’ and her dreamy, unique blend of nostalgic pop and R&B, which claimed her secure spot within the music scene.
Whilst studying Popular Music at Goldsmiths University in London, the singer-songwriter discovered her passion for all things music production, pre-dominantly taking inspiration from the likes of D’mile, Omen and Stint.
Just recently, she has dropped a brand new, long-awaited new single ‘Post Your Body‘, which, with her striking vocals and relatable storytelling, again proves that Taura is truly here to stay. Her latest offering is only just the beginning of a brand new chapter for the fresh talent – moving forward, she will be releasing a brand new track from her collection each month, so her fans can stay tuned!

EQ: Hi Taura, how did you get into music?
T: Hi Equate! So I actually started writing my own music and doing little open mic gigs around Birmingham (where I grew up) when I was about 14. I always felt very smug being asked for an ID to get into the bars, and explaining I was playing a set (not quite as cool as I thought with my Mum stood behind me, I’m sure). After going to Goldsmiths to study music, I started writing for other people, and it wasn’t until I began producing my own tracks that I thought about releasing as an artist. Now I’m trying to work with as many people as possible to really get the most out of the writing process.
EQ: Your sound is a vibrant mix of nostalgic pop and R&B – which artists did you grow up with and who influences your sound now the most?
T: Thank you so much, that’s literally the exact sound I’m aiming for so a big compliment for me. As a child I was obsessed with the big chart hitters – my walls were COVERED in posters of Rihanna and Beyonce. I knew every word to every Britney track and I was pretty much in love with Ne-Yo. Nowadays I’m definitely leaning more towards the R&B side. I love Victoria Monet (and anything else produced by D’Mile), Snoh Aalegra, Mahalia, Lucky Daye, Emotional Oranges – a lot of very well produced bedroom jams… I guess nostalgic pop and R&B makes a lot of sense actually!
“I’m so excited for this project and for everyone to hear what I’ve been working on over the last year, and I think Post Your Body is quite an indicative glimpse of what’s to come!”

EQ: Talk us through your brand new single! We love it. What’s the story behind the lyrics?
T: Thank you!! I feel really proud of this one. To me, it feels like quite a clear progression and step up from the earlier music, without moving too far away from the original sound. I wrote this one a really long time ago mid break-up. We were finding every excuse to talk over every platform, but all I actually wanted was to speak in person and have some face to face contact, hence the (half) jokey lyric “say it how you want, but if it’s a letter, can you post your body with it?”. It became this sexy, sensual but also pretty sad pop track, that has almost perfectly been delayed in its process, and been released right after a lockdown, when everybody has missed face to face contact the most.
EQ: How did the collaboration with producers St Luna and Bit Funk come about, and what was it like working with them?
T: Post Your Body was one of those songs I wrote and always had in the back of my mind but never seemed to finish. I think I fully produced 2 separate versions of it, then had it looked at by a super talented producer who I’ve worked with on a lot of other music, but we both agreed it didn’t feel quite right. Eventually I asked ST LUNA and Bit Funk to have a go. They did an absolutely incredible job on the production and really took it to the next level. We collaborated through lockdown, so the vocals were recorded alone at home in London, ST LUNA did his part down in Bournemouth and Bit Funk worked from LA. The isolation definitely highlighted the loneliness of the lyrics, and somehow, from all over the world, the final version of Post Your Body was born.
EQ: Finally, what else have you been cooking up for this year?
T: This year is a big one for me! I have a new track being released every first Friday of the month until next March, with a few feature tracks thrown in there along the way as well. I’m so excited for this project and for everyone to hear what I’ve been working on over the last year, and I think Post Your Body is quite an indicative glimpse of what’s to come!
