Music K Camp Hip Hop artist K Camp is not letting any opportunity pass him by. The artist better known as Kristoper Thomas Campbell, released his debut EP ‘In Due Time’ in 2014. To say that he’s been patient is an insult, as the rapper don R&B singer, has been waiting for his window of opportunity to come. His new album ‘Float’ may be it. “Float is the next level to my career. When it comes to the music I “Float.” That also goes for every other aspect in life, that’s just who I am right now.” Says K Camp. EQUATE sat down with the hip hop star to talk about his crossover appeal, growing up in Atlanta, and breaking into the music industry. Words by Robert Frezza EQ: You’ve been getting some major recognition from some major outlets and magazines in recent years. How do you let this wave continue? KC: The wave continues by staying consistent and outworking my competition. EQ: You grew up in Atlanta. Any stories or experiences you want to share? KC: Atlanta designed me—from the house parties, club nights, club fights, studio sessions, everything that came with the city. Too many stories to name but it’s legendary. EQ: How difficult was it to break into the music industry? How and when did Interscope sign you? KC: I was working for about 7 years before I got signed. I’ve seen a lot of artists I knew I was better than pass me up, but it all came around full circle and I signed with Interscope in 2014. “It all came around full circle.“ -K Camp EQ: You mesh hip hop and R&B flawlessly. Do you think we are seeing a new renaissance in hip hop in 2021? KC: Of course! The game is always changing and I do it so effortlessly because I’ve been working on this same craft for years. No choice but to be GOAT level at this point. EQ: Are you going on tour soon? Or has Covid thrown those plans out the window? KC: Tour starts Oct 1, get ya tickets now!
